Toyota Supra 2.0 sends 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque through the same eight-speed automatic as all of the other Supra variants. That’s a big step above the other sports coupe in Toyota’s lineup: the Toyota 86. The Supra makes 50 more hp than the 86. The I4-powered Supra also has 127 fewer ponies than the updated 2021 Supra 3.0, which makes it fall into a sweet spot in the Toyota lineup.

The GR Supra 2.0 is also significantly lighter than the 3.0 models. The 2.0-liter models drag around 219 fewer pounds than 3.0-liter Supras. That makes the power difference slightly less obvious. That shakes about to about 12.5 pounds per horsepower for the 2.0-liter Supra. The updated 3.0 obviously bests its lower-output stablemate with only 8.9 pounds per horsepower. Though, when comparing it to the 2020 model’s 10.1 pounds per horsepower, the 2.0-liter model doesn’t look that bad.

Visually, the differences between the 2.0-liter and 3.0-liter models might be hard for some to spot. The only major differences between the two Supra models are the wheel size, lack of big Brembo brakes and polished exhaust tips. Base Supra models come equipped with 18-inch wheels as standard, with 19-inch wheels joining 3.0-liter models.

There are other less obvious changes, too. The 2.0-liter Supra loses the adaptive suspension and active differential. The 2.0-powered models also only sport a four-speaker audio system as standard but will feature an 8.8-inch touchscreen to control it. The base Supra also starts with manually adjustable seats, opposed to the power-adjustable seats on the more expensive models. While the active differential and adjustable suspension are noteworthy losses, the other features can be shrugged off as weight savings.

All in, the changes heading to the 2021 Supra make it an even more interesting option in the shrinking world of sports coupes, especially considering the addition of the more affordable 2.0-liter model. All of the 2021 Toyota Supra models are to hit dealers this summer
